Trip Details

Fátima

The Sanctuary of Fátima is a place devoted above all to prayer, where the Holy Rosary, requested by Our Lady of the three shepherd children, holds a central place as an offering for world peace. Pilgrims often join the Rosary at the Capelinha, daily Mass and the traditional candlelight procession, experiences that leave a deep impression on their visit.

The Sanctuary offers many spaces for worship and an encounter with God, especially the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima and the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, which seats 9,000 worshippers. Between them lies a vast esplanade for communal prayer and large celebrations.

It also has chapels dedicated to different moments in the life of Christ, as well as places for Reconciliation and Perpetual Adoration, giving pilgrims many opportunities for a profound experience of faith.

The devotion of recent popes to Fátima has been particularly significant, especially that of Saint John Paul II. After the assassination attempt on May 13, 1981, he attributed his survival to Our Lady’s protection, saying that “a mother’s hand” had deflected the bullet. Years later, the bullet was offered to the Sanctuary and placed in the crown of the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima.

Saint John Paul II made three pilgrimages to Fátima: in 1982, 1991 and 2000. Other popes also visited: Paul VI in 1967 for the fiftieth anniversary of the apparitions, Benedict XVI in 2010, and Pope Francis in 2017 during the centenary of the Marian apparitions.

Among the places associated with the apparitions, the Chapel of the Apparitions stands out as the spiritual center of the Sanctuary, where Our Lady appeared five times to the three shepherd children. Other places of great historical and spiritual significance include Loca do Cabeço, the Well of Arneiro and Valinhos, all associated with extraordinary events.

Valinhos and Aljustrel

The Stations of the Cross at Valinhos invite pilgrims to follow a path of silence, nature and prayer leading to the homes where the shepherd children lived in Aljustrel. Along the way, each station offers a place to pause, pray and meditate, encouraging deep reflection on the simple lives and trusting devotion of the visionaries. Visits to other significant places, such as Loca do Cabeço and the Well of Arneiro, enrich this experience. These were settings of the children’s daily lives and decisive encounters with God. These paths invite unhurried prayer, contemplation and a deeper experience of the message of Fátima, allowing pilgrims to journey both outwardly and inwardly, accompanied by faith and recollection.

Valinhos and Aljustrel hold a central place in the history of the Fátima apparitions. Some of the most significant encounters with the Angel of Portugal and the Virgin Mary took place in and around Valinhos, deepening the message of prayer, conversion and trust in God entrusted to the three shepherd children. Marked by the silence and simplicity of the countryside, these places still preserve the contemplative character that surrounded those manifestations.

Aljustrel preserves the original houses of Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta, humble homes that bear witness to the simple, family-centered and deeply faithful lives of the visionaries. Visiting them helps pilgrims understand the human context of the apparitions and how, from such simple surroundings, a message emerged that would profoundly influence the history of the Church.

Salamanca

In Salamanca, pilgrims can immerse themselves in an academic and cultural atmosphere, walking along golden stone streets that reflect centuries of history, thought and faith. A guided visit to the two cathedrals and the historic center reveals a rich heritage where art, architecture and spirituality come together in a unique setting.

The itinerary includes a visit to the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest in Europe, whose courtyard and façade invite visitors to discover the profound intellectual and humanist legacy that has shaped the city’s identity. The experience culminates in the Plaza Mayor, an ideal place to rest and spend time together, enjoying the local charm and the peaceful rhythm of life in Salamanca.

Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Europe’s oldest university cities. Founded in Roman times, it reached its greatest splendor in the Middle Ages, becoming a prominent center of learning, faith and culture.

The city is home to the Old and New Cathedrals, an exceptional complex reflecting the evolution of sacred art from Romanesque to Baroque and bearing witness to Salamanca’s deep religious tradition. Founded in 1218, the University of Salamanca became a leading center of European thought, especially during the Spanish Golden Age, thanks to the School of Salamanca, whose work was decisive in the development of international law and reflection on human dignity.

Today, Salamanca preserves its identity as a meeting place for faith, knowledge and university life, offering visitors a rich cultural and spiritual experience.

Garabandal

The visit offers an opportunity to pause along the way, quiet the heart and renew trust in God. Inspired by the legacy of Saint Teresa, pilgrims find in Ávila a setting for personal reflection and an inner encounter. Its peaceful beauty invites them to continue the pilgrimage with gratitude, hope and a strengthened faith.

The walk to Los Pinos is an opportunity to pray the Rosary and take time for reflection. Amid the landscape and the village’s tranquility, pilgrims find space to renew their trust in God and deepen their devotion to the Virgin Mary. The visit invites them to continue their journey with hope and a heart ready to live their faith each day.

San Sebastián de Garabandal is a small village in the municipality of Rionansa, in Cantabria, Spain. Its history gained international attention between 1961 and 1965, when four girls reported apparitions of Saint Michael the Archangel and the Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. These accounts aroused widespread religious interest and attracted visitors from different countries.

The events prompted investigations and statements by ecclesiastical authorities, without the alleged apparitions receiving official recognition as supernatural. The parish church, village streets and Los Pinos are part of the route followed by visitors who come to learn about this history and spend time in prayer and Marian devotion.

Covadonga

A visit to the Sanctuary of Covadonga invites silence and contemplation, framed by the striking beauty of the Asturian landscape. From the moment of arrival, the surroundings convey a deep sense of peace, preparing the heart for prayer and an encounter with God.

The path to the Holy Cave, where Our Lady of Covadonga, affectionately known as La Santina, is venerated, becomes a moment of recollection and trust. In this simple, deeply symbolic space, the murmur of water and Mary’s maternal presence invite pilgrims to offer their personal intentions, give thanks and receive comfort.

The celebration of the Eucharist and time for personal prayer allow pilgrims to experience Covadonga as both a historic site and a true place of spiritual renewal. They leave with peaceful, strengthened hearts, aware of having experienced a profound encounter with the Virgin Mary.

Our Lady of Covadonga, affectionately known as La Santina, is one of Spain’s most important religious and spiritual symbols. Covadonga is closely linked to the Battle of Covadonga in 722, traditionally considered the beginning of the Reconquista, when Don Pelayo and a small group of Christians resisted Muslim rule, giving rise to the Kingdom of Asturias.

Since then, the site has been associated with both a historical event and a providential understanding in which Christian faith and trust in the Virgin Mary played a central role. Tradition attributes the victory to her intercession. Veneration of Our Lady in the Holy Cave strengthened devotion to her over the centuries.

Over time, Covadonga became an important Marian shrine and spiritual center for all of Spain. The construction of the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga in the nineteenth century reinforced its religious and symbolic significance. Today it is a place of pilgrimage where history, faith and nature meet.

Lake Enol

A visit to the Enol lakes offers pilgrims a profound encounter with nature in the heart of the Picos de Europa. The ascent reveals beautiful landscapes where silence, fresh air and the vast surroundings invite visitors to pause and reflect. Before the calm waters and majestic mountains, pilgrims can experience a moment of inner recollection, recognizing the grandeur of creation and renewing their spirit in an atmosphere of peace and contemplation.

The Enol lakes are part of Picos de Europa National Park, one of Spain’s oldest protected natural areas. Since ancient times, shepherds and local inhabitants have lived in and traveled through these lands, finding sustenance, shelter and a way of life in harmony with nature. Livestock farming, especially seasonal migration with herds, has shaped the landscape and local life for centuries, leaving a deep mark on the area’s cultural identity.

Over time, this natural setting became a symbol of northern Spain, valued for its extraordinary beauty as well as its ecology and heritage. Today, the Enol lakes are a place where history, tradition and nature intertwine, allowing visitors to understand the age-old relationship between people and the natural world in surroundings that invite respect, contemplation and care for creation.

Lourdes

A visit to Lourdes offers pilgrims a profound experience of faith at the sanctuary where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette. The itinerary includes the Grotto of the Apparitions, a central place of prayer and recollection, as well as participation in the candlelight procession and the Holy Rosary, prayed in several languages alongside pilgrims from around the world.

Pilgrims also have the opportunity to take part in the water gesture, a simple and deeply spiritual moment recalling the message entrusted by Our Lady to Saint Bernadette and the signs of healing that have strengthened the faith of millions over time.

The experience continues in the footsteps of Saint Bernadette and through the Sanctuary’s main spaces, including the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and the underground Basilica of Saint Pius X. Participation in the Eucharistic procession and moments of adoration also provides a setting for prayer, contemplation and spiritual renewal.

It is one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the world, known for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. This sanctuary is a symbol of faith, healing and hope for the millions of pilgrims who visit each year.

The Grotto of Massabielle, where the apparitions took place, is the spiritual heart of the sanctuary, together with the surrounding basilicas. Many pilgrims visit the baths to immerse themselves in waters considered miraculous, or simply drink from the fountains, following the message of penance and conversion left by Our Lady in this sacred place.

Zaragoza

A visit to one of Spain’s most emblematic Marian shrines, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar on the banks of the Ebro River, offers pilgrims a profound experience of faith and recollection. This majestic space invites personal prayer, contemplation and veneration of Our Lady of the Pillar, whom thousands of faithful visit daily to present their intentions and give thanks for the gifts they have received.

Pilgrims can take part in the celebration of the Eucharist, approach the Holy Pillar in a gesture of devotion and explore the church’s interior, admiring its artistic and spiritual richness. The spacious basilica and peaceful surroundings encourage an inner encounter with God, making the visit to Zaragoza an experience that strengthens faith and leaves a deep impression on the heart.

Tradition holds that the Virgin Mary appeared in the flesh to the Apostle Saint James in Zaragoza around AD 40, leaving the Pillar as a sign on which the sanctuary was built. This makes it the oldest Marian devotion in Christianity. Since then, Zaragoza has become an important center of devotion and pilgrimage.

Founded in Roman times as Caesaraugusta, the city has witnessed the development of Christianity over the centuries. The present Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, built during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, is today a symbol of faith, history and tradition, where Marian devotion remains alive and draws pilgrims from around the world.

Ávila

Ávila welcomes pilgrims with its walls, stone streets and quiet corners that invite silence and prayer. The city of Saint Teresa of Jesus offers an encounter with faith, history and Teresian spirituality. Exploring its churches and squares reveals a place where everyday life preserves the imprint of a deep Christian tradition.

Ávila preserves a rich medieval heritage, represented by its iconic walls, cathedral and many churches and convents. Its history is closely linked to Saint Teresa of Jesus, born in the city in 1515, whose life and work left a fundamental mark on Christian spirituality and the reform of the Carmelite order.

Places such as the Monastery of the Incarnation and the Convent of Saint Joseph, Saint Teresa’s first foundation in 1562, offer an introduction to her legacy of prayer, simplicity and devotion to God. Amid cobbled streets and historic squares, Ávila keeps alive the memory of a city where faith, art and history accompany pilgrims at every step.
